Medication Aide Program
32 Hours
Cost: $280.00
CLASSES STARTING SOON
The Medication Aide Course is a “Certificate of Completion” course. A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course. This certificate will prepare you to assist with the management of medication in facilities that are managed by the Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services such as Residential Care Facilities, Group Homes, Day Programs, and correctional facilities.
Students who complete the 32-hour Medication Aide Course are NOT registered with the Virginia State Board of Nursing but are permitted to administer medication in facilities governed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (DBHDS) under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Must be 18 years or older.

Must be able to read & write English at the level necessary to understand the training manual.

Must be able to perform the required task to complete the program. Applicants should have good manual dexterity & visual acuity.
Subjects Covered:

Preparing Functions Effectively as a Medication Aide

Maintaining Aseptic Conditions
-
Facilitating Client/Resident’s Self-Administration of Medicine or Assisting with Medication Administration

Assisting Clients/Residents with Self-Administration of Prepared Instillations and Treatment Tasks
-
Assisting the Diabetic Client/Resident, Preparing, and Injecting Insulin
Personal Care Aide Program (PCA)
40 hours
Cost: $400.00
CLASSES STARTING SOON
This PCA program will teach how to provide assistance to individuals with disabilities, injuries, or elder-care needs in the privacy of their home. A certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the course.
This 40-hour “Certificate of Completion” training program is based on the Department of Medical Assistance Services curriculum and is designed to provide practical training for persons providing personal care aide services to Medicaid Waiver recipients.

These are not Virginia State Board of Nursing programs.

Applicants are accepted if they will benefit from completing the program and meet all program entry requirements.

Placement as well as the right to deny the entrance of any student based on his/her application is at the sole discretion of Shades of Life staff.

Students must be registered prior to the class start date.

All classes have a limited number of seats and registration is contingent upon seat availability.
